13th annual NORDEFCO ADL conference
“New learning demands, new learning technologies and new possibilities” - the 13th annual NORDEFCO ADL conference was held in the spirit of these on 5-8 May in Finland, where the NATO MILMED COE was also represented.
The five-nation NOrdic DEFence COoperation (NORDEFCO; including Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden) considers Advanced Digital Learning a critical enabler. The nations have established therefore the NORDEFCO ADL forum of experts and hold an annual NORDEFCO ADL Conference that has grown to a joint Nordic ADL event with international attendees and speakers. The main areas of interest are sharing of learning content and lessons learned in the field of procurement, development, implementation and evaluation of technology-based learning concepts.
180 registered attendees and speakers from each Nordic country as well as from the United States, Germany, the United Kingdom, Hungary (NATO MILMED COE), Poland, Italy and Ukraine took part in the conference that was organised in the beautiful city of Hyvinkää.
The event provided an excellent opportunity to discuss all aspects of this years main subjects: Learning tools, Learning science, Learning methodology, Learning technology, Producing animations and graphics, Producing video lectures, Designing and developing learning assets, Multiplatform delivery of courseware, Practical use of (emerging) learning technologies, Developing blended learning courses, The conference also offered workshops and parallel sessions with a great opportunity for dialogue. In addition to this, there was an opportunity to visit the exhibitor's area, where participants could see and try out some of the displayed products.
It was the first time that the NATO MILMED COE contributed to the conference with a presentation. Our education and training specialist introduced how we integrated the Advanced Distributed Learning capability in the Vigorous Warrior 2024 and Clean Care 2024 (VW24/CC24) joint multinational exercises to support pre-training requirements.
The event is a great opportunity for NATO MILMED COE to share its best practices and lessons learned in technological improvements, and we are looking forward to the next conference in Denmark.
