The Minister of Defence of Georgia was received by Colonel Dr. Attila Lengyel, Deputy Director of the MILMED COE. In his welcome speech, he outlined the major milestones of this diplomatic process over the past year.

Georgia announced its intention to cooperate with MILMED COE in 2020, and even in the same year, negotiations on Georgia’s Participation in the COE’s activities began in October. In November, the possibility of joining as a Contributing Partner was already raised, and this intention was confirmed by the Georgian Ambassador’s visit soon after.

The first major success of the long diplomatic process was the fact that Georgia was already able to attend at the 25th Steering Committee meeting in June 2021 as an observer.

Following that in October this year, the areas of military medicine had been specified, in which Georgia intended to cooperate with the NATO MILMED COE. Based on this, the MILMED COE started to draft and intensively discuss a Letter of Intent.

Therefore, the COE has initiated and has received a document issued by the Minister of Defence of Hungary as of the framework nation of the COE, due to which he has expressed his strong support to the future cooperation.
