Innovation Portal: the new source of information

The portal currently contains a number of articles on technology developed as solutions to problems encountered during the COVID-19 pandemic. And there are many articles posted on topics other than COVID-19, that cover a broad range of technological fields. We are working on processes for cataloguing and archiving articles, so that individuals interested in a particular technological area can quickly locate information of interest.

The information that we have featured on the site is information that we have come across in scientific journals, publications, and websites, or have learned about through participation in various technology-related events. We place what we think would be of interest to others on the site.

Articles about new technology being utilized by the military medical elements of Alliance countries are of greatest interest to us. We view this information as being the most "actionable" – as the technology already exists. A country doesn’t buy a new tool unless it fills an unmet need or was felt to provide a better solution to an existing problem. Sharing this type of information – if it results in earlier and broader adoption of the same tool by other countries – increases collective readiness and interoperability.

While we are very interested in new devices being fielded, we also want to obtain and share information on developing technologies that are far from being fielded, where the technology has the potential to significantly improve how military medical care is delivered. These are technologies that if "selection and prioritized" for NATO or national resourcing, to accelerate their development, could have a tremendous impact on military medical readiness and capability.

We hope that you visit the Innovation Portal and subscribe to our innovation newsletter. If you are aware of any innovation developments or have innovation ideas that you think should be shared within the NATO medical community, please let us know (lessons.learned@coemed.org)!
